How Liverpool will line up with Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have completed the signing of Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, putting to an end weeks of speculation over the player’s future.

Nunez had a stellar season, scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, even scoring against Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League.

The deal will cost Liverpool €100 million on the whole, including performance-related add-ons, in what makes him the most expensive Liverpool player ever.

So, with the move complete, how will Liverpool line up with Nunez in the side?

In goal, Alisson will continue as normal, with no challenger to his number one status having enjoyed a wonderful campaign in the Liverpool net.

At the back, the two full-backs in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will remain untouched, with rotation coming from the likes of Neco Williams and Kostas Tsimikas.

In the middle, Virgil van Dijk will be joined by Ibrahima Konate, with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez there to support the pair if needed.

In midfield, Jurgen Klopp tried several different triumvirates over the course of the season, which was an indication of the quality at his disposal.

The midfield of Fabinho, Thiago and Naby Keita could be the one used most frequently next season, with Jordan Henderson and James Milner there to help out.

It has been said that midfield is one area that Liverpool are keen on improving this summer, so there could be some additional options there.

Attack is where Nunez will be deployed, and he will form a front three with top scorer Mohamed Salah on the right and Luiz Diaz on the left.

Diaz only arrived in January from Porto and made an immediate impact and with Sadio Mane likely to leave this summer, he looks set to be the team’s first choice.

Nunez should form a fine trio with Diaz and Salah – a trio that scored 87 goals between them last season across all competitions.

To support them, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota will be there, although they are likely to have secondary roles in that group.

Things may change depending on transfer activity and who else Liverpool decide to sign, but as things stand, this would be their best side.
